Doug McDermott Receives Honorable Mention for the StatSheet Missouri Valley Player of the Week - February 6th, 2012

StatSheet's Missouri Valley Player of the Week for February 6th goes to Wichita State's Garrett Stutz. Northern Iowa's Deon Mitchell has won StatSheet's Missouri Valley Freshman of the Week. And last but certainly not least, Chip Rank from Northern Iowa has won StatSheet's Missouri Valley 6th Man of the Week.

Stutz was the Missouri Valley leader in scoring (24.5 pts per game), rebounding (13.0 per game), and blocked shots (3.0 per game). He also tallied a huge number in shooting (60%). The Wichita State senior put these numbers up in wins against Missouri State and Indiana State.

Stutz led the Shockers in scoring and rebounding with 25 points and 11 rebounds in a 74-67 win over Missouri State. In the next game he led all scoring and rebounding with a 24 point and 15 rebound performance in a narrow 71-66 win over Indiana State.

This is the first StatSheet Missouri Valley Player of the Week award for Garrett Stutz. The runner-up this week is Missouri State senior Kyle Weems. Honorable mention goes to our own Doug McDermott.

StatSheet Missouri Valley Freshman of the Week: Northern Iowa's Deon Mitchell

Deon Mitchell played an average of 29 minutes as a starter for Northern Iowa. He bested all Missouri Valley freshmen in both scoring (14.5 pts per game) and free throws (7.0 per game). In a 58-49 win over Southern Illinois, Mitchell led the Panthers in scoring with 17 points and added 2 assists. Then in a thin 65-62 win against Creighton, he added 12 points and 2 assists.

This is the first StatSheet Missouri Valley Freshman of the Week honor for Deon Mitchell. The runner-up is Seth Tuttle from Northern Iowa. Nic Moore from Illinois State takes honorable mention.

StatSheet Missouri Valley 6th Man of the Week: Northern Iowa's Chip Rank

Sophomore Chip Rank, a 6-6 reserve forward, averaged 25 minutes of action over the two games for the Panthers. In the win against Southern Illinois, Rank added 13 points on 100% shooting. During the win against Creighton, he racked up 9 points and 2 rebounds.

This is the first time this season that Chip Rank has won the StatSheet Missouri Valley 6th Man of the Week. Our own Ethan Wragge is the runner up. Ned Cox, a junior guard from Evansville, receives honorable mention. Creighton has won the StatSheet Missouri Valley Player of the Week award 3 times this season.
